Use the tools below to determine the minimum CFM rating of the Kitchen Range Hood to be installed. After you determine the CFM flow requirement, then check both approved databases to confirm the fan is listed and certified to achieve 1) 100 CFM with less than 3.0 SONEÂ AND 2) the flow in CFM from the calculator below. (Note, the flow in CFM as determined by the calculator below, does not have a SONE requirement.) You must make sure the kitchen range hood is meeting both the 100+ at less than 3.0 SONE AND that the fan is able to achieve the calculated CFM (and this second value does not have a SONE requirement). The databases that are approved are the HVI.org database, and the AHAM database. **AHAM is an Excel File download that you must search, whereas HVI has a search tool on their website.
The other calculator on this page is to help you determine the minimum flow requirement to meet the ASHRAE 62.2 requirement for Title-24 Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). There must be a fan in the home dedicated to IAQ that operates continuously at the flow rate determined by the calculator.
